Terms of Use

These Terms of Use (the “Terms”, and, together with the app-store licence below, the end-user licence agreement or “EULA”) govern your use of KaiReader, a language-learning reading app developed by Kaifuz Studio (“Kaifuz Studio”, “we”, “us”). By downloading, installing or using KaiReader you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

The licence we grant you

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use KaiReader on devices you own or control, for your own personal, non-commercial language study. You may not sell, rent, sublicense, or redistribute the app; copy it except as the app store’s normal operation allows; reverse-engineer, decompile or disassemble it except to the extent the law expressly permits; or remove any proprietary notices. All rights not expressly granted are reserved by Kaifuz Studio.

Acceptable use

Use KaiReader lawfully. Do not use it to infringe anyone’s rights, to access or distribute content you have no right to, to circumvent the paywall or usage limits, to overload or probe our service, or to build a competing dataset or service from it. We may suspend access that abuses the service or these Terms.

Articles and third-party content

KaiReader displays articles from the RSS and news sources you add, and content you paste or import. That content belongs to its publishers and authors and is subject to their own terms; KaiReader is a reader, and we do not own, endorse, or take responsibility for it. You are responsible for having the right to read and import the sources you add. Machine translation, glossaries, readings and pronunciation scores are study aids and may be imperfect — do not rely on them where accuracy matters.

KaiReader Pro — subscriptions and lifetime purchase

KaiReader is free to use on-device. KaiReader Pro unlocks the server-powered study aids (per-sentence 文 translation with a glossary, and AI-generated readings). Pro is offered as an auto-renewing monthly or annual subscription, or as a one-time lifetime purchase, at the prices shown in the app.

Purchases are sold and processed by Apple’s App Store or Google Play, not by us — we never see your card or billing details. Payment is charged to your store account at confirmation. Subscriptions renew automatically for the same period and price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends; your account is charged for renewal within the 24 hours before it ends. You manage and cancel subscriptions in your App Store or Google Play account settings, not inside the app. The lifetime option is a single payment with no renewal. Except where the law or the store’s policy requires it, payments are non-refundable; refund requests are handled by Apple or Google under their policies.

If you use Pro without a paid plan through a free grant, trial or promotion, the same rules apply for its duration. We may change Pro’s features or prices going forward; changes do not affect a lifetime purchase you already own, and any subscription price change is subject to the store’s notice and consent rules.

App-store terms

Your use is also subject to the rules of the store you downloaded from. For Apple, the standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement applies and, where it conflicts with these Terms, governs the Apple-provided licence; Apple and Google are not parties to these Terms and are not responsible for the app or for support, but a store may enforce these Terms as a third-party beneficiary.

Privacy

Our handling of your data is described in the KaiReader Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.

Disclaimers

KaiReader is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, to the fullest extent the law allows. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted or error-free, that translations or readings will be accurate, or that any source you add will remain available.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Kaifuz Studio will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost data or profits, arising from your use of KaiReader. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law, and some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

Termination

You may stop using KaiReader at any time by deleting it. We may suspend or end your licence if you materially breach these Terms. Provisions that by their nature should survive — licence restrictions, disclaimers, limitation of liability — survive termination.

Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as the app changes. The date above shows when they were last revised; continuing to use KaiReader after an update means you accept the revised Terms.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws applicable at Kaifuz Studio’s principal place of business, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules, and subject to any mandatory consumer protections of your country of residence.
